What Happen to Your Dog When Left In A Hot Car?

There might come a time when your beloved canine won’t be able to come into the store you’re visiting. This would mean, you’d have to leave them in the car, all alone. If the weather isn’t scorching, leaving your dog in the car for a few minutes would be okay. However, we don’t recommend it at all.

A closed car lacks air circulation. It leads to a rise in air temperature and carbon monoxide, which makes the car hotter and more dangerous over time. When the dog is in a hot car for a long time, the probability of fatal accidents is higher.

What can happen to your dog when it is in a hot car:

– Dilating blood vessels

– Decreasing blood pressure

– Blood clotting

– Organs failure

– Muscle tremor

– Vomiting

– Coma

A dog’s body will be able to adapt to the situation, but not for too long. Within five minutes, your dog will still be fine since the cooling mechanism of its body starts to work. Longer than that, your dog’s blood vessels will dilate, which can cause blood pressure to drop.

Once you hit the 10-15 minute mark, the dog’s vessels start to clot and fail to fill in the crucial body parts, such as the kidneys, liver, and gastrointestinal tract. As the temperature in the car keeps rising, a condition called hypoglycemia, caused by liver failure will occur.

Fatal accidents might occur after 20-30 minutes after leaving your dog in a hot car. The dog’s multiple organs are damaged extensively due to blood clots. The drop in blood pressure means that the vital organs do not receive enough oxygen.

When the dog’s temperature reaches 42 Celsius, multi-organ failure, muscle tremor, and even comas might happen. Even if your dog is still alive, its chance of survival is low.
