Therefore, a study has discovered travelers’ behavior in consuming mobile content in a hotel. This study is taken with an online survey tool.

Business Vs. Pleasure Travelers
There were differences in behavior shown by business and pleasure travelers.
Not to mention that both types of travelers might have different necessities during their visit to a hotel.
Business Travelers
76% of them desired to buy pay-per-view content
85% of them were more likely to buy onward tickets or book a hotel offering mobile content
92% of them accessed hotel video content from the hotel’s WiFi internet service
Pleasure Travelers
64% of them were more likely to buy pay-per-view content
71% of them were more likely to book a hotel offering mobile content
86% of them access hotel video content on the hotel’s WiFi internet service
Services Consumers Want on Mobile
Phone and tablet owners shared similar preferences of what services they want to experience on mobile devices, which are:
- Checking in and out services
- Guest Services
- Special offers
- Business services
Phone Vs. Tablets
Phone and tablet users showed only a slight difference in using mobile devices in a hotel.
However, the overall result stated that tablet users showed more interest in:
- Buying PPV content on a device,
- Using mobile content on the hotel’s WiFi internet
- Booking a hotel that offers access to video content and services
Interest in Paid Content by Apple iOS Device Owners
The study showed less than 50% of iPad and iPhone owners would pay for paid content.
The exact percentage is as follows:
iPad Owners
40% of them were interested in paid movies
30% of them were interested in pay on-demand TV
iPhone Owners
45% of them were interested in produced movies
40% of them were interested in paying for on-demand TV
Interest and Concerns
Almost three-quarters of respondents wanted to access hotel video content from their mobile devices.
Those who didn’t show interest in accessing content on their phones stated some reasons behind their decision, which are:
45% of them said it was because of their device screen size
30% of them stated that it affected their mobile battery life
17% of them said that it was related to wireless network coverage
33% of them were concerned about data charges
Conclusion
The study has shown the differences in the behavior of business and pleasure travelers.
Moreover, the study also revealed the preference between mobile phone and tablet devices users and iPad and iPhone users.
However, people’s behavior in accessing mobile content in a hotel may change as the study was conducted in 2012.
