George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Quincy Adams– these names come to mind when you think of famous US presidents. We always hear about their achievements and how well they led the country, but we rarely discuss their deaths.

It’s not a thought that often crosses the mind, but there’s no harm in knowing about all the deceased US presidents.

This infographic covers sixteen deceased presidents and sorts them based on the date of their passing.

The First President

George Washington was one of the founding fathers of the United States of America. The public knows him for leading the Continental Army in the American Revolution and was the first President of the United States.

George Washington established the many roles and traditions of the US President. Those roles and traditions still stand today.

Sadly, Washington passed away at the age of 67. According to studies, he caught a bad cold and grew very sick with a throat infection.

His death is still a mystery, and it’s speculated to be Epiglottitis.

Funerals

Funerals are usually sad events. It’s a time to mourn and respect the deceased. Sometimes, it’s a way to celebrate the person’s life and the legacy they leave behind. Sometimes, that person would prefer a simple funeral– it all depends on their wishes.

The funerals for each President varied. Death isn’t cheap, and when it came to funerals, each President had their preference.

For example, George Washington did not want to be buried for three days. Thomas Jefferson opted for a simple affair for his funeral, and John Quincy Adams’ funeral celebrated his life, and political friends and foes attended the event.

Another example of a grand funeral would be Andrew Jackson, who had nearly three thousand people in attendance.

Abraham Lincoln had a more public funeral. His coffin was placed in different cities so the public could pay tribute to him.
