Ray-Ban’s sales took a dip as Ray-Ban fell out of fashion. In this period, oversized glasses reigned supreme on the disco floor
1982
Wayfarer had not fully recovered from the drought. But, it successfully made an appearance in The Blues Brothers movie.
1982 – 87
In 1982, Ray-Ban made a bold move by signing a $50,000 a year contract to place their eyewear in movies and TV shows.
1983
Thankfully the price was worth the result. Ray-Ban got their significant return thanks to Tom Cruise donning the classing Wayfarer in the Risky Business Movie. Ray-Ban even hardly kept its Wayfarer in stock.
The 1990s
Ray-Ban once again had to overcome hard times as the frames became unpopular. Around this time, the wraparound frames outcompeted wayfarers.
2001
Ray Band redesigned their frames with smaller and less angular ones. Also, they substituted acetate with a lighter injected plastic.
The late 2000s
Celebrities began wearing vintage frames, and Wayfarers made many appearances in movies and music videos. The demands for vintage Wayfarer frames came to rise again.
2007
Ray-Ban re-introduced their Wayfarer design with more color and pattern options, like checks and camouflage.
