In recent years, SEO has become quintessential for businesses to survive on the Internet. SEO helps them get a better reach of their audience and an ideal marketing strategy to gain traffic and exposure.

Search engines have merged into our lives. With the likes of Google Assistant, Bixby, and Siri, finding out what the weather is like or the perfect restaurant to celebrate your 5th anniversary is only a search away.

Since there are so many people using search engines, it makes it the ideal place to reach your target audience and the perfect marketing opportunity. While the idea of SEO may seem intimidating, it doesn’t mean you should avoid it. In fact, any business big or small can utilize SEO in their marketing strategy and reap the benefits from search engines.

With so much information online regarding SEO, sifting through the content can be challenging. We wanted to make SEO easy to learn and digestible, so we turned 55 facts into this infographic which was meant to inform and educate small business owners about SEO with facts and statistics they need to know— minus all the fluff and complex language.

How and Where the Infographic was Promoted

The infographic was first published on our site, then pitched to various web design blogs and SEO and digital marketing sites.

Outreach campaign

The Goal of the Outreach

To give a concise, easy to read guide for those who are interested in digital marketing and SEO and to gain backlinks and exposure.

The Steps

1. Finding keywords

The first step of the outreach was to figure out what keywords to use to search for blogs to reach out to. We chose medium-tail keywords since short tail keywords can be too general and too difficult to create an actual difference. On the other hand, long-tail keywords can be too unique and have minimal results.

Keywords used for our campaign:

  • Digital Marketing
  • SEO
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Internet Marketing
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • SEO Basics
  • SEO Blogs
  • SEO Companies
  • SEO Services
  • SEO Trends
  • SEO Content
  • SEO Tools

2.  Compiling a list and making the email sequence

Next, we started our search. This can be done with a variety of tools or with a manual search by finding blogs who offer guest posting opportunities. Doing a manual search can take up more time and effort but can have more accurate results. Once our list is compiled, the next step is to prepare the email sequence to send to people on the list.

3. Reaching out

This is the most important part— reaching out. An outreach campaign doesn’t guarantee instant results. It takes time to send out emails, wait for responses, and respond to any inquiries or replies.

4. Creating blurbs

To make things easier for the people we outreached to, we offered blurbs to save them time and add more value to the infographic. The length of the blurb and content varied depending on the sites. Some sites have requirements when it comes to word count but some like to keep it short and sweet.

5. Maintenance

The last step is to wait for a reply and follow up on those emails.  Again, this can take up a lot of time since some people won’t reply right away so it’s best to set a deadline or time frame for these outreach campaigns. Some blogs have planned out their content in advance so getting published on their site may take some time.

Results

The infographic ended up on various sites and continued to be shared long after being published. It also generated a significant amount of backlinks and exposure. A notable part of the campaign was when the infographic got picked up by Entrepreneur.com.

Getting published on sites with a high domain rating is awesome news and is the right step to a successful marketing campaign.

Being picked up by a major publication is a big boost — and not only in terms of a growing audience but the elevated visibility also helps with credibility and reputation, which is clearly a win for anyone looking to better their marketing strategy.

Being on a major publication also increases more traffic to your site and social media profiles, which helps heaps with acquiring users. Another benefit is syndication. Once an article is featured on a major publication, it’s much easier to get featured on other publications.
