Infographic created for Will Mullins
Getting a high ranking on Google is a priority for most SEO specialists, content marketers, and digital marketing professionals. Appearing on the first page of Google search results is no easy task. Lead generation and conversions are every marketer’s purposes. In fact, it’s quite difficult to do so.
According to Neil Patel, SEO becomes challenging as time goes on because the number of competitors and companies who want to boost their SEO increases. Due to the difficulty of SEO in general, it’s not easy to manipulate or sabotage the algorithm.
Traffic drives a website. Without it, there’s no point for a website to exist. Good SEO brings in traffic. Although it’s not instantaneous, there are several things you can do to lighten the load when it comes to SEO and gaining traffic from Google. To start, here are six reasons you might not be getting the traffic you deserve:
No-Index Means a Dead-end
It’s great to see your website getting noticed but before you get too happy, check whether or not your site is set to “no-index”. If your site is set to “no-index”, there’s no chance that you’ll get any traffic from Google since it means your site isn’t listed on the search engine.
Poor Site or Code
A start-up is often limited in terms of finances. Oftentimes, companies will keep their spending to a minimum even for their website. A poorly built website can result in poor code and structure which will confuse Google— something you don’t want to happen, ever.
Difficult Navigation
How easy is it for your visitors to find information on your site? If they are struggling to find your menu or basic information, then your site will rank poorly on Google— decreasing traffic from the search engine.
Tips: Make sure your site is easy to navigate and the information displayed is crystal clear.
Low-Quality Backlinks
Are your backlinks spammy? If they are, they can actually harm your site in the long run. Although more backlinks might seem like a reason to celebrate, it can actually cause your site to become snubbed by Google.
Lack of Information
Google would be confused to see your website if there is no information at all. The search engine wouldn’t be able to crawl your site and you won’t be able to appear in search results.
Tips: You don’t have to have large blocks of text but make sure that your site has clear information.
Plagiarism
Are you copying content from other places? Plagiarizing content is a big no-no when it comes to getting on Google’s good side. So, make sure your website content is 100% original and plagiarism-free
